The disparity in Black Maternal Health is astounding. Black Moms are 3-4 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related deaths than a non-black mom according to the CDC. My state, Louisiana, is #2 behind Georgia in these losses. Our city, Monroe, LA, received two heart-wrenching blows as we loss two beautiful moms within days of each other, that left everyone with so many questions and started conversations revealing a host of traumatic experiences from family members left to mourn. #BlackMaternalHealth #PregnancyComplications

My guest, Professor Brittany Lewis, RN and I discuss factors associated with pregnancy-related loss, multiple factors related to the disparity, and what reignited her passion to make changes in these statistics. Brittany is seeking resources to help black moms in Northeast Louisiana obtain education and resources to reduce the risk and associated losses. She can be messaged at Brittany ChocolateDoll Lewis on Facebook
